  2.     QBob is an action game, filled with strange space landscapes and bizarre,
  3.     deadly alien creatures. Prepare to have your nerves jangled and your
  4.     senses overloaded:  the only sound you can hear is the beating of 
  5.     your own heart... until you hear your helmet cracking...
  6.

  8.     Characters:

  11.     QBob
  12.         You control the actions of QBob, a space surveyor, jumping around 
  13.         on asteroids in deep space, preparing them for demolition. A little
  14.         nervous about his surroundings, and more than a little naive, QBob
  15.         needs your help to successfully carry out his duties, despite the 
  16.         dangers around him.
  17.  
  18.     Ufo (a.k.a. Top Secret USAF Case XJ-605B5)
  19.         This alien lifeform is very curious, and not shy, so watch out! It
  20.         may want to see what QBob looks like with his helmet off!
  21.  
  22.     Probe (a.k.a. Top Secret USAF Case FG-874C3)
  23.         Probe is quite an ingenious alien and has an affinity for mechanical
  24.         gadgets.  Don't get to close to it and its toys though, or you might
  25.         be "shocked" by what you see!
  26.  
  27.     Agent Roswell Coverup
  28.         A former FBI agent specializing in UFO reports, Roswell is devoted
  29.         to his job. Unfortunately, his job is so top secret even he doesn't
  30.         know what he's doing. Roswell emerges from nowhere and when
  31.         intimidated, quickly vanishes without a trace.
  32.  
  33.     Sideways Twins (a.k.a. Top Secret USAF Cases ZT-731K0 & ZT-731K1)
  34.         What can one say about two disgruntled alien twins who disregard
  35.         all evidence of gravity and throw silent but lethal tantrums when
  36.         anyone gets in their way? Not much more than that, really.
  37.  
  38.     Meteor
  39.         Chance of showers today: 100% !  Meteor showers, that is. Be 
  40.         careful! One hit on that Plexiglas helmet and QBob is people pate!!

  44.     World Objects:
  45.     ==============
  46.  
  47.     Cubes
  48.         The asteroids QBob (and you) have been assigned to demolish 
  49.         are divided into small cube-shaped pieces. During your survey,
  50.         QBob marks each cube one or more times. Once he has surveyed
  51.         the entire asteroid, you may demolish it by pushing the Big Red
  52.         Button. The cube in which the button is embedded indicates 
  53.         the goal marking color for the survey.
  54.  
  55.     Big Red Button
  56.         Push this button to destroy the asteroid. It is disabled 
  57.         until QBob completes his survey. The button will glow brighter 
  58.         when it is enabled. When QBob pushes the enabled button, he will
  59.         have ten seconds to evacuate the area before the explosion.
  60.         No dawdling!
  61.  
  62.     Launchpad
  63.         This spinning platform will take QBob away from the demolition
  64.         site and to the next asteroid for him to survey. The launchpad
  65.         will not arrive in the area until he calls it by pushing the Big
  66.         Red Button. 
  67.  
  68.     Telepads
  69.         These glowing platforms have been placed among the asteroids to
  70.         help QBob move around when surveying for demolition. Telepads will
  71.         teleport QBob to another telepad of a like color.
  72.  
  73.     Shield
  74.         Every once in a while, a care package from QBob's employers may
  75.         appear on the asteroids. When picked up, this package will give
  76.         QBob a life-saving portable force field which can protect him from
  77.         the dangers surrounding him. In fact, many other characters will be
  78.         intimidated by the glow: Try to scare them off. Be careful, though;
  79.         the energy pack for the shield doesn't last very long. Also, the
  80.         shield can not help QBob if you make him fall off the asteroid!
  81.  
  82.     Silver 'Q'
  83.         When QBob reaches certain levels of accomplishment, some unknown
  84.         force sees fit to reward him with the opportunity for extended life!
  85.         A mystical symbol will appear which will give QBob an extra life
  86.         when collected. Grab these when you can!

  90.     Menu Items:
  91.     ===========

  93.     Game
  94.         Start a new game by choosing "New", which lets you select the
  95.         number of players for the game.
  96.  
  97.         Note that you can use the keys F1 through F4 as a short cut to
  98.         begin a one, two, three, or four player game, respectively.        
  99.  
  100.         "Pause" (or the pause key) pauses the game.
  101.  
  102.         "End" ends the current game.
  103.  
  104.         "Exit" exits the game. Stop me if I'm getting too technical.

  106.     Options
  107.         "Player" brings up the player options dialog box.
  108.             Use the tabs at the top of the dialog box to select 
  109.             the options pages for Player 1, 2, 3, and 4.

  111.             On these pages, you may select the keys with which you will 
  112.             control the actions of QBob during the game. The arrows point 
  113.             in the direction of movement for each of the keys. To change 
  114.             the keys, click the mouse pointer in the box corresponding to 
  115.             the direction desired and then hit the key you wish to use.
  116.  
  117.             The action key will enable the telepads and the rocket, so 
  118.             don't forget which key to "use"!
  119.  
  120.             These pages also have options to enable and disable mouse
  121.             and joystick control. Mouse and joystick support may also
  122.             be toggled on or off during a game by the keystrokes Ctrl+M
  123.             and Ctrl+J respectively.
  124.  
  125.             You may also toggle the appearance of mouse arrows on the 
  126.             screen during the game.  These arrows point in the direction
  127.             QBob would jump if you were to press the left mouse button.
  128.             The arrows will change orientation as you move the mouse 
  129.             pointer around QBob.

  131.         "Sound" brings up the sound options dialog box.
  132.             This dialog box gives you the option to enable and disable the 
  133.             sounds for each of the characters in the game.
  134.                 
  135.             "Enable All Sound Effects" -- This check-box allows you with 
  136.                 one click to enable or disable ALL the bleeps and bloops
  137.                 and screams and explosions and oh, the humanity!!... ahem.
  138.                 But I digress...
  139.         
  140.             "Enable Midi music" -- This check-box enables or disables
  141.                 the background music played during the game.
  142.  
  143.         "Background Anim" toggles some moving space debris in the 
  144.             background of the game-playing area. This option is purely
  145.             for ambiance, so if the game runs a little slowly on your 
  146.             computer, turn this option off.
  147.  
  148.         "Violence" toggles the display of tasteless violence that, in 
  149.             the tradition of many modern video games, adds "nothing" 
  150.             to the game play, whatsoever. 
  151.             We put it in anyway, though. Just in case.
  152.  
  153.         "Resolution" is a popup menu that allows you to choose the
  154.             resolution of the gameboard and characters.  Especially
  155.             useful for 640x480 displays.

  157.     View
  158.         "High Scores" brings up the list of the highest scores reached 
  159.             while playing QBob on your computer.
  160.  
  161.         "Demo" starts the demonstration of typical game play. It will 
  162.             continue until you select this menu item again or start a 
  163.             new game.

  165.     Help
  166.         "About QBob" displays the copyright information and version 
  167.             number of this program.

  169.         "Instructions" displays this document.

  171.         "Legal Information" displays a dialog box containing a statement
  172.             of the Limited Use License Agreement and the Limited 
  173.             Distribution License Agreement.

  175.         "Order Information" displays a dialog box containing information 
  176.             about registering your copy of QBob and obtaining
  177.             the full version of the game.

  179.         "View QBob's Web Site" will launch the default web browser on your
  180.             computer and open QBob's home page on the Internet at
  181.             http://www.moonrock.com/moonrock. (Assuming you have a web
  182.             browser installed on your computer.) You may need to already be
  183.             dialed in to your Internet service provider for this to work.
